ThunderGrass

New instrumental quartet ThunderGrass launched at La Mama Musica in October 2019. Focusing on long form improvisation and taking inspiration from The Necks, the Art Orchestra of Chicago, and Sun Ra Arkestra amongst others, they move freely between groove based riffs and abstract soundscapes. The ensemble members' long collaboration history with Adam Simmons Creative Music Ensemble, Bombay Royale, Octave Pussy, The Women, and many more provides a shared language to create a tightly woven sound. Howling horns Ros Jones (trombone) and Gemma Horbury (trumpet) meet rumbling drum ‘n’ bass Nat Grant and Miranda Hill as the squall approaches. 

Youkali Quartet 

 Harmonic and melodic bliss of 4 trombones entwined with 4 part vocal harmony supported by rhythm section. Youkali quartet is the euphoric sound that has long been searched for. Improvised and scored original sounds from women composers who have inspired us to write such as Carla Bley and Melba Liston
